Gite guest book

Having researched the subject with our guests, we were told in no uncertain terms that a ‘Guest Book’ with comments about the gite and the area is something they seek on a website.

So, here are some comments from our visitors book which lives in La Grande Maison, followed by a few snippets from letters and emails received after guests have returned home. We have not used guests names, but these are genuine comments and we do have contact names we can supply on request for those of you who may like to talk to an independent party willing to share their gite experience!

Family from the Midlands.
“A most enjoyable week, which we hope to repeat in the future. Thank you Mary and John for making us feel so welcome in your lovely gite. It is such an experience to wake up to the sound of nothing but birdsong. The boys loved the hot tub. Mum loved the many fab restaurants, sunshine, and “R and R.” Dad loved the horseriding and water-skiing.”

Family from Rochdale.
“Mary and John – our first venture into France. We have all enjoyed ourselves, the gite is fantastic, so well equipped (even down to drinking straws for the kids). The hot tub, games room and the field at the back (used as the 18th hole) – all wonderful. We will certainly come back.”

Couples from the Isle of Man and Liverpool.
“This is a very friendly part of France and the Gite is the best equipped we have ever stayed in, with helpful and kind owners. We liked Pontivy with its excellent shops and restaurants. Lots of interesting little bars to be found if you explore the little cobbled side streets. We had a bit of difficulty leaving, still partying at 2am on the day of departure!”

(Owners note: – One of these couples runs a holiday outfit in the Isle of Man, we were especially pleased that they were happy with the accommodation.)

Two families from Nottingham.
“From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, Mary and John were perfect hosts (Mary even let my 3 year old Findley ‘do’ some gardening with her). The ideas and information for days out were very good – if you have children, the zoo at Rennes is a great day out. We all had a relaxing holiday and left for England fully chilled out and bronzed. We hope your stay is as good as ours.”

Yet another family from the Midlands!
“A truly brilliant find! We have had the best holiday. Something for every age in the family, even baby sitting available. All we could want in the village, good food, friendly bar, great village shop, all filled with great characters.”

Two families from Huddersfield and Wakefield
came up with a new angle on presenting comments:-

L is for lounging in the sun
A is for animals – dogs, cats, goats and all

G is for Guerledan, the place of the beautiful lake
R is for raindrops on our head
A is for absolutely fabulous shops
N is for nights filled with laughter
D is for darts and the tournaments played
E is for eating in Marcel’s with lots of wine

M is for Mary and John who made us completely welcome
A is for another glass of wine in the hot tub
I is for indulgence
S is for Sally and the missing flip flops
O is for over indulgence!
N is for not wanting to leave

Thank you for a wonderful stay!”

Family and their friends from Wantage, Bristol and Cornwall.
The following rhyme was the product of concentration and several coffees while sitting in the sunshine on the last morning:-

“Unlike this entry our stay was a success!
Champagne in the hot tub to ease old daily stress.

Pork cheek eaten with great trepidation,
Chocolate mousse, – eager anticipation.

Foie Gras consumed with greedy gusto,
Menus read without much fuss though.

The sun did shine its cheery grin,
Upon Monsieur with his evening gin.

Upon the beach at Carnac Plage,
Where we parked in the tourist garage.

The road that stretched along from Quiberon,
(That the world and his wife seemed to be upon).

Sally* ensured safe dips in the tub,
As with her paw she did gently rub.

(Struggling for rhymes by now, coffee pot empty,
Pop next door for more, bet they’ve got plenty!)

So all in all with the village meal
And hosts who smiled with such radiant zeal.

We’ve had a great stay, worked really well,
Offering endless fun and stories to tell.

Lastly though, highlight of the week,
Le Tournoi, of darts electronique!!

Bye for now, but do beware,
We’ll be back, more good times to share.”

*(Sally is a dog!)

Family from Warwickshire.
“A wonderful week, which has exceeded all expectations. From the youngest to the oldest we have all enjoyed a lovely family holiday.”

Two couples from West Yorkshire.
“What can we say – the house is perfect and very comfortable. The welcome pack was extremely generous and very well received. The meal prepared and served to us on the first evening, was indeed appreciated after a long drive. The trip was well worth it. The village made us all very welcome, not to mention our new friends Mary and John. Chris enjoyed his stint in the “Boules Club”.

Places to visit…. Vannes was our absolute favourite- it has everything – the most delicious cake stops, great shops and lovely buildings. Concarneau is also worth a visit for the unusual mediaeval section across the bridge – great atmosphere. St Malo is another great place for shops. Port Louis is a lovely place to visit too. Auray was another great place. Be careful to arrange your shopping trips around the French opening times. “Le Martray” in Pontivy is indeed an excellent place to eat, lovely friendly and relaxing. A very expensive restaurant in Mur de Bretagne with green doors, much nicer décor inside, EXCELLENT food if a bit pricey. Thanks again for a very enjoyable stay.”

The following remarks come from family, either with friends or grandparents have stayed with us every year since we set up the business, we must be doing something right!

“Who needs TV, Macdonalds or computers………true family time spent here. Home from home.”
(Owners note: – we do have UK TV!)

Couple from Canada.
“Lovely place, we had a great time, house is comfortable, welcoming to come home to after a tough day sight seeing! The log fire………….perfect for roasting chestnuts gathered in the garden.”
(Owners note: – This was an Autumn stay, the first of many out of season bookings)

Couple from Augusta, U.S.A.
“Wonderful vacation, – peaceful setting, terrific hosts.”

Extracts from letters and emails:

“Just wanted to say many thanks again for a super holiday, and a memorable send off. Britain is bright and sunny this morning, but we’re missing the Church bells and French life. I hope your new guests are better than the last shower! We are planning a ‘return match’ talk to you again soon”

“I must apologise for not writing in your visitors book. We had a marvellous holiday, helped in no small way by your kindness and thoughtfulness in providing those little ‘extras’ that help make the time away from home less stressful and more enjoyable. You have a lovely property and the facilities for guests are excellent – it’s amazing how the things like freezer packs, selections of herbs & seasonings, proper coffee, shower gels, soaps etc not to mention the dressing gowns, make all the difference.”

“We are suffering withdrawal symptoms! We all offer our thanks to you for doing so much to make the week in Kergrist such a success. The sheer comfort and convenience afforded by La Grande Maison is unsurpassed by anything we have ever found before. A truly lovely week enjoyed equally by all three generations. Baby sitting and taxi service made our evenings out complete”

“Thanks for your wonderful hospitality. We were able to totally relax and sample the delights in your corner of France, so much so, we are now seriously considering moving to France ourselves.

Do keep in touch – in the meantime, will be sure to pass on your details to friends and family looking for a great place to stay.”

One of our earliest parties included a very talented photographer. She sent us this collage and also returned to take more photographs, many of which feature on this website. We are eternally grateful.
